In this article, I will teach you how to deal with many negative thought processes using the Pattern Interruption technique of NLP science.
Pattern Interruption
Patterns are present in our life; the human mind finds repetitive patterns and falls into their trap after a while. Meanwhile, pattern breaking is one of the powerful techniques of neurolinguistic programming that helps you stop a repetitive thought process or behaviour.
Stopping a disturbing thought or behaviour pattern
From this moment, when you remember the relevant issue or start the chronic and repetitive behaviour process, you destroy the neural pathway of doing it using a shocking action. You can trigger that behaviour, destroy and break the pattern by
- yelling a specific silly phrase at yourself (e.g., shut up!)
- doing a ridiculous physical action (slapping yourself! jumping, or pouring a glass of freezing water on the belly).
Another way of pattern interruption is that when memory or a thought bothers you, just from this moment on, keep one leg up every time that thought comes to your mind. While your head is straight, try to stare at the ceiling and focus on a point for a second. By doing this, you are interfering and destroying the relevant thought pattern. Soon, with several repetitions, you will see that you cannot think about that subject.
What matters is that you do something completely shocking and stupid to you and thus destroy the previous thought process or behaviour.
