Have you ever heard of Meta Model?
Meta Model is one of the valuable tools in NLP that we can use in communication because it can correct the effects of deletion, change, or generalization that humans usually use during contact with others.
Deletion, generalization, and distortion of reality
Unconsciously, humans usually manipulate reality and change their experiences of their lives by removing parts of reality, distorting, or generalizing.
Examples of this problem:
Distortion: I’m sure he hates me. I’m sure his smiles are fake.
Delete: No one loves me, and whoever said it didn’t say it from the bottom of his heart.
Generalization: All people are traitors.
These things humans do make the past or new things they encounter seem unbearable.
Humans usually distort or define external information and events (in the past, present, or future) in such a way as to strengthen their current beliefs. For example, when someone lacks self-confidence, he deletes all the memories that confirm his self-confidence and enters a parallel reality where he has no self-confidence, and no one has ever admired him.
How to use Meta Model?
Meta Model proves to the individual that the filters and beliefs he has in his mind are entirely distorted by his mind and are not true. Pay attention to these examples:
I’m sure he hates me. I’m sure his smile was fake.
Meta question: What exactly makes you so sure? What evidence do you have to prove it? What exactly was artificial in his smile?
No one has ever loved me. Even when they pretend to love me, it’s just an empty compliment.
Meta question: Are you sure no one has ever loved you?!
All men are traitors.
Meta question: Does that mean he is not even a good man?! R u sure?!
As you can see, the purpose of the Meta language pattern is to prove to the person that what they are saying is entirely distorted and baseless. You can also use the Meta Model to negotiate with your subconscious mind. It would be best to continue these questions until the person regains consciousness and becomes aware.
How to use the Meta Model to change beliefs
One of the applications of the Meta Model is to change your fundamental beliefs. For example, let’s assume that you believe that you are a weak person. In such a case, the questions you ask yourself to use the Meta Model technique will help you realize that your beliefs are completely absurd and invalid.
Many psychological problems are based on false beliefs that people have formed in the course of life. Therefore, by using the technique taught to you, you can live a better life and experience better emotions.
