Speed reading is an important skill that will save you a lot of time in your life. Whether you love reading or hate it, being able to finish a book in an hour or less is a great skill that will be very useful. Because you can use the extra time that comes from doing this elsewhere.
In this article and subsequent articles, I will introduce you to techniques for reading much faster than the current speed.
Here are some tips to help you speed up your reading 🧐
💥 Find important information 💥
Before reading a book or article, read its headlines to find the important ones and just read them. Many books and articles have useless sections to make the book just bigger than it really is. So an important skill is to practice how to quickly find only valuable information and ignore the rest.
💥 Do not read, just recognize 💥
Those who do fast reading professionally do not read. But they recognize. There is a difference between the two. See the following sentence:
I love to eat desert after dinner.
Our minds usually recognize rather than see. Have you ever crossed paths and confused the writing on the wall with the name of your love? Have you ever heard something and then realized that the main point was something else and you heard something else? For example, suppose you work in a factory called FAMS. Now if you see the word FANS on the wall somewhere, Your brain will initially confuse it with the name of the factory. Our mind adapts everything it sees or hears to what it has already learned or seen, and quickly suggests the closest thing to us.
Now look at the phrase above as an example:
I love to eat desert after dinner.
If you have managed to read it without error, it means that you are on the right path!
But if you see mistakes, you have to correct this situation. You have to recognize all the phrases at once, Not to read the words one by one.
💥 Recognize several words together 💥
After observing the above points, you should try to recognize several words at once and get the meaning of them. Practice first so you can read 2 words. Then increase this interval until you can read a sentence at once and increase your viewing width.
💥 Do not re-read the text 💥
Re-reading a text will waste a lot of time. Get in the habit of never, ever reading a text again. By doing so, you will gradually become more focused on studying because you do not see a way back. Note that re-reading a line that you did not notice most of the time will not change much and will not add to your understanding of that line.
💥 Do not read aloud 💥
If you speak while reading and read the words one by one, or even if you hear your inner voice while reading, you are wrong.
What is Subvocalization?
Subvocalization occurs when you silently say words in your head as you read them. This habit limits how fast you can read. Reducing subvocalization will increase your reading speed significantly, as you will be able to read faster than you can speak.
HOW can you reduce it?
To reduce subvocalization, try counting in your head while reading. you can also try humming or listening to music without lyrics as you read. You just have to see and recognize. Not to read one by one. The sound you hear from inside while reading prevents you from increasing your speed. So you have to work on this.
💥 Categorize before reading 💥
By knowing what the whole thing is about, your mind can subconsciously recognize the words it sees much faster.
💥 Limit your mental resources 💥
If you focus on several different places while studying, such as listening to music or thinking about something else at the same time, you can be sure that your speed and efficiency will decrease.
💥 Reduce the time to rest and move your eyes between the lines 💥
This can save you a lot of time.
By using these tips and applying them carefully, you can multiply the speed of your study compared to the current situation.
